Tour de France – Grand Départ 2014 – Sunday 6th July

In case you haven’t noticed, the city of York is welcoming riders and spectators on the Tour de France this year. On Sunday the 6th of July the city is expected to be very busy with people celebrating this unique event.

To allow our congregation to take part (all spectating – no riders as far as we know!), and recognising that it will be very difficult to get to Central on Sunday morning, there will be no service on 6th July.

Other churches in the Methodist circuit are holding services (and special events). The evening service will be a joint service at Clifton Methodist church, so again no service at Central.

A man on the island of Sark

You may have heard of some of the Channel Islands but have you heard about Sark?
Deacon Cedric May lived on this beautiful island for three years and was minister of the Methodist chapel there.  He worked with a Canadian film company to produce a documentary called ‘A Man of the Island of Sark’ which was shown on Canadian TV.
Friday evening at 7pm we will show the film at Central,  giving you the opportunity to see some of beautiful scenery and gain a glimpse of the lives of local people and Cedric’s ministry there.  Life is very different from here – there are about 600 people and no cars.
Cedric will introduce the film to us and answer questions at the end.   Refreshments will follow.   There will be a retiring collection for Christian Aid.
All welcome!
